Kaelan Joseph Levy, also known by his stage name, K.Levy, is a hip-hop artist, actor, and motivational speaker from Vacherie, La. Kaelan is a St. James High School alumnus and has been committed to giving back to his community since he was a child. He’s been writing songs and developing his talent since the age of 5, in hopes that he could build a platform for himself and make an impact on everyone who crosses his path. He is well known for his motto, Mission Legendary, which inspires people to challenge themselves to be the best that they can be in any circumstance.
In 2016, Kaelan used his platform through music to launch his non-profit organization, The K.Levy Foundation. For this foundation, he created an acronym in which “K.Levy stands for “Knowledgeable Leaders Evolving as Victorious Youth”. Through this foundation, Kaelan hopes to continue to uplift, inspire, and provide young people with opportunities to use their gifts to become legendary.
Kaelan has performed at various events including The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Essence Festival, New Orleans Saints charity events, The National Urban League’s Youth Summit, Six Flags over Georgia’s Teen Honor Awards, Zulu events, and attended the 2016 Easter Egg Roll at The White House. For the last 3 years, Kaelan has acted in multiple stage-plays and also performs and does motivational speaking at schools, churches, and youth events. Just recently, Kaelan was chosen to represent St. James Parish as the 2017 Krewe Of M.A.C. (Making a Change) Ambassador. He was also the recipient of Nicholls State University’s NAACP 2017 Humanitarian Award. He was nominated for ‘Best Actor in a Gospel Stage Play’ by Church Stars Network and ‘Best Male Artist’ for the Gospel Independent Grammy Awards. Kaelan hopes to continue to be an inspiration to his community and people worldwide by living up to his “Mission Legendary” motto and passing it on for generations to come.
Concerts for Indigent Defense show solidarity across music communities nationwide, in support of this badly neglected Constitutional right to counsel. Concerts for Indigent Defense are not fundraisers. They proceed like any other gig, with no money flowing any differently. Musicians contract with the club, receive regular pay, etc. Musicians without scheduled gigs that night are encouraged to participate in other ways: by sitting in with friends, doing a smaller thing locally, releasing a video or song… whatever works.
Concerts for Indigent Defense is a declaration by musicians – on the anniversary of the decision in Gideon v. Wainwright – that the Constitutional right to counsel must be respected. Concerts for Indigent Defense strongly publicizes these shows through a website and social & traditional media nationwide, to educate the public about the issue and invite them to the shows.
